Dutch Murder Total Increased 6% in 2022, Rotterdam Named New Murder Capital

Murders in the Netherlands rose by 6% in 2022, with a total of 133 victims in 128 cases, according to new statistics. This marks a 10% increase from the previous year.

Rotterdam has been named the new murder capital, with 16 victims, followed by Amsterdam with 11.

Most victims were male, and 12 were under 18, including three babies or toddlers.

Brigitte Nolden, head of the Rotterdam police district’s regional detective division, called the statistics “very sad” and said, “every victim is one too many.”

The news has also sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for stricter punishment for those convicted of murder.

However, it is yet to be seen what impact these measures will have on the murder rate in the Netherlands.
