Nelson Mandela Bridge Repairs Successfully Completed, A12 Highway Reopened in Zoetermeer

The A12 highway near Zoetermeer has been reopened to traffic in both directions after completing construction work on the Nelson Mandela Bridge.

The road had been closed in recent days due to repairs on the bridge, which crosses the highway and is an important link for the city and the only connection to the Zoetermeer train station.

Originally, the road was expected to remain closed until 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. However, thanks to the efficient progress of the construction, the road was able to reopen ahead of schedule.

The Nelson Mandela Bridge was closed in early December after cracks were discovered during investigations, raising concerns over the structure’s stability.

In addition to the A12 highway, the bridge accommodates a railroad line and the RandstadRail system. A temporary bridge section has been added during the repairs.

The successful completion of the Nelson Mandela Bridge construction is a major milestone for the community, as it can again fulfill its important role in the region.
